I love my job!
I went to my first Discovery Toys party years before I had my first child. A friend invited me because she knew that I bought cool educational toys for my nieces, nephews and friends’ kids. I fell in love with the toys - at that party I stocked up for coming birthdays and holidays, and even saved some for when my own little ones eventually arrived. I loved that they were educational, yet fun and creative, and you could tell they were high-quality.Fast forward 6 years: my daughter, Zoe, was 2-1/2 and my son was 6 mos. I’d stopped working "outside the home" before Max was born, so for almost a year, my life had been solely about diapers, feedings, do I get to take a shower today? and also about smiles, giggles, first steps, new words, new discoveries. It was wonderful - the best decision I had made, except...
I needed to get out of the house! Plus, it probably sounds selfish, but in our society Moms do not get enough kudos for what we do, and I missed that from the corporate world. I was used to being given a challenge and rising to it. Of course, raising happy, well-adjusted kids is certainly a challenge - but it’s different. I hope you know what I mean. Plus, the fact that I was not bringing in an income was also having an impact on my family.
While clearing some artwork off my fridge to make room for new, I stumbled upon the phone # of a DT consultant. Right then, on a whim, I called and said "I think I want to sell Discovery Toys!"
She explained that I needed to order a Kit of toys and supplies, but I could earn a full refund based on sales in my first few months. There was a challenge for me! All those great toys for FREE? And I’d be out of the house a few times a month? Plus I’d be bringing home some cash?
That was Sept 2002. That fall, I held 14 demos (about 3 per month) and I set up at a few holiday fairs. I earned a double kit rebate and by Christmas I had made over $1500, plus had more than $700 in free toys for my own kids and to give as gifts that holiday season. Not bad for one night out per week plus a few hours on the phone, email, etc.
In 2003 I decided to see just how far I could take my Discovery Toys business. I promoted to Group Manager, attended Convention, grew my team, and had a terrific holiday season, earning almost $10,000. What I didn’t expect was how far my Discovery Toys business would take me – my family & I have enjoyed all-expense-paid vacations to Vienna Austria, Nassau Bahamas, Los Cabos & Acapulco Mexico!
This year, I’m already working to earn our next incentive trip to Puerto Rico - and you can, too! If you’re at all interested in hearing more about this opportunity and what Discovery Toys might be able to do for you, please call me or email. The beauty of this business is that you can do as much or as little as you choose. You might try it just for the toys, or for some extra income, or to get out of the house once in a while. Or you might make the best career decision of your life...
I’m still loving being home with my kids full-time - I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But now I also have some outside fulfillment and a decent paycheck for a few hours’ work each week. My goal now is to grow my business to the point where I can earn a full-time income and still be home with my kids - meeting them at the bus, going on field trips, helping in their classrooms.
Thanks for reading this! Again, if you want to join Discovery Toys, or earn free toys for your children or school by hosting a party, workshop or ToyRaiser, or even if you just want a gift recommendation, please contact me.
Whatever you do, have fun!
