A Career That Makes a Difference!

I chose to take a different path from the corporate world in 1986 as I had an infant and wanted to take a short break from my very lucrative but time intensive job in broadcast sales at ABC.  I thought I would try a year as an Educational Consultant with Discovery Toys because they offer the most outstanding developmental products for families and my 3 month old daughter, Kelly, could be my personal "toy tester" as well as about a dozen nieces and nephews I needed to purchase toys for on birthdays and Christmas.  If nothing else, Discovery Toys would allow me to save $ buying all their gifts at wholesale!

I never would have believed that I would still be "playing for a living" 23 years later.  We now have 3 children - Kelly - a UVA graduate working in Economic Development in the Peace Corp in the Dominican Republic.  Robbie and Kevin are both in high school and very active with sports, part time jobs and other activities.  They all grew up so quickly and I am so happy that my fun, flexible part time job allowed me to be there for most of their games, chaperoning field trips and being the room mother.  They all grew up playing with Discovery Toys (of course that is why they are so smart!) and watching me set goals to grow my own business.

My husband, Mike, has enjoyed the extra income my career has provided for the family and the 14 all-expense paid incentive trips we have gone on together through Discovery Toys.  My children have joined us in Hawaii, Paris and Cancun and the rest have been romantic trips for the two of us to exotic places like Acapulco, London, Maui, Montreal, the Bahamas and more!  I plan to spend Valentines Day next year in Puerto Rico!

Over all, Discovery Toys has been a wonderful "family business" because our products encourage a child's positive growth and development and when children love the toys they play with because they are fun - they are also learning.  For me, Discovery Toys has provided a meaningful business opportunity that has increased dramatically as my family has grown by allowing me to build my work schedule around my family life while earning an income that supports our lifestyle.
