A Career That Makes a Difference!

I first experienced Discovery Toys as a hostess in August of 2006.  My daughter was 7 months old and really needed some toys.  A friend was looking for hostesses to launch her business, and I remember thinking, “Those Measure Up Cups are SOO cool!  I don’t care how big my party is as long as I earn those cups!”  I ended up earning over $200 worth of toys, books and games for free and half price, and I thought, “This is the best MOM secret out there!  Awesome educational toys for children with lifetime guarantees – at a huge discount!  SIGN ME UP!”  I joined a month later and spent the next year sharing our great products with moms in Virginia, South Carolina and Alaska (my husband is in the Army, and we get to move A LOT!). 

Soon after we moved to Alaska, I started noticing children who play with our toys really did have great language skills and elaborate imaginary play scenarios.  I realized that our mission was so much greater than helping moms to get great toys for less money – we were really improving the lives and minds of the children that were playing with our products. I realized that I could be reaching so many more moms and children if I could teach other moms to do what I was doing.   And I could help those moms to make their dreams of staying at home while helping with family finances come true.

I love that I get to help moms and their children, AND that I get to stay at home with my own “toy testers.”  I get to attend all of the field trips and dance classes with my daughter, and I can sit on the floor and play and read with my son, and the three of us can go to playdates together.  My children are learning that “mom’s work time is fun time” because they know that if they let me work for a little while, that they will get to play with me for a little while – and that is setting them up for success in school when their teacher’s time will have to be shared by the class.  We set goals together about how we will spend the extra money from my job, and they are learning the value of money – and they cheer me on when I leave them at home with daddy so I can go to a party because they know it brings us one step closer to our goals. 

I also love that Discovery Toys feeds my desire to learn more about being a better parent.  Our training calls, our team meetings, and our conventions are all sources of information that help me to grow.  I have learned so much from talking to other consultants and hostesses and guests at a party – there is always a new technique or approach to add to my parenting “bag of tricks” and I love that our parties engage the guests in a way that makes them want to share with each other.
